Database Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Database Engineer to lead the migration of over 25 custom SAP tables to an Aurora PostgreSQL environment. This role is focused on designing efficient database schemas, executing reliable data migrations, and ensuring optimal performance in a cloud-based architecture.

You will be responsible for transforming legacy SAP data structures into a scalable and high-performing database solution, while ensuring data integrity, security, and system reliability. The role also involves close attention to performance tuning, high availability, and long-term capacity planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement database schemas in Aurora PostgreSQL based on existing SAP custom table structures.

• Develop and execute data migration scripts, including validation and reconciliation procedures.

• Optimise database performance through query tuning and efficient indexing strategies.

• Configure and manage read replicas to support reporting and analytics workloads.

• Implement database security measures, including encryption and access control mechanisms.

• Design and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data resilience.

• Perform ongoing performance tuning and capacity planning to support system scalability.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora and PostgreSQL.

• Strong understanding of database design, data modeling, and performance optimisation.

• Experience with database migration projects, ideally involving SAP systems.

• Basic knowledge of SAP data structures and SAP environments.

• Familiarity with database security best practices (encryption, access control).

• Experience with backup, recovery, and high availability configurations.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
