About the Role


The Red Hat Linux System Administrator role is responsible for the day‑to‑day management and support of AIB’s Red Hat Linux estate, consisting of approximately 150 x86 physical servers and around 4,500 VMware‑hosted virtual machines supporting critical banking services. The position requires strong expertise in RHEL 8 and 9, VMware virtualisation, exposure to Azure cloud, and solid automation and scripting skills using Ansible and Ansible_Automation_Platform. Certifications such as RHCSA and RHCE are considered beneficial.


Responsibilities


  • Platform & System Administration — Install, upgrade, and configure RHEL 8 & 9; maintain and optimise system performance; manage physical and virtual servers; ensure availability and accessibility of server resources.

  • Automation & Engineering — Develop and maintain automation using Ansible and AAP; use Bash/Ansible scripting to reduce manual effort; contribute to standard builds, patching, and configuration management. Monitoring, Performance & Troubleshooting — Monitor system health; review OS and application logs; resolve issues; optimise CPU, memory, IO, and storage utilisation.

  • Infrastructure & Cloud — Support VMware virtualisation platforms; work with Azure cloud services; support infrastructure changes, upgrades, and lifecycle activities.

  • Security & Compliance — Ensure compliance with security standards; apply patches; perform vulnerability remediation; maintain system integrity; support backup and data protection; awareness of SCOM is beneficial.

  • Storage & Supporting Technologies — Maintain understanding of SAN/NAS technologies; support integration across compute, storage, and network layers.


Key Requirements


  • Strong hands‑on experience with RHEL 8 & 9.

  • Experience with VMware virtualisation.

  • Proficiency in Ansible/AAP and Bash scripting.

  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services Solid understanding of system performance tuning, logging, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
